Achieving Our Vision
|
|
Our program began in 1988 with a group of volunteers interested in organizing a
program for school surf teams. Since that time we have expanded and developed our
program into a respected model for both surfing and school sports. Our commitment
to excellence, professionalism and consistent fairness is the backbone of our organization
and what we feel is the reason we receive requests for assistance from all over
the country.
|
|
The purpose of the Interscholastic Surfing Federation (ISF), as stated above, is
to give student surfers from middle schools and high schools the opportunity to
participate in a well organized, professionally operated surf program representing
their school.
|
|
The ISF is a nonprofit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization and is not affiliated
with any school or school district. Surf Teams and/or Surf Clubs are organized independently,
perhaps by a faculty member such as a PE Coach, a teacher, a school advisor, or
by an interested parent or community volunteer. The ISF provides support and/or
instruction to schools or individuals starting their surf program and keeping it
running well.
|
|
Our current membership is approximately 2400 student surfers from 78 school surf
teams. Our program is growing at a rate that is exciting, yet a challenge to keep
up with. Some of the areas in California participating in the ISF program at this
time are Santa Cruz, Arroyo Grande, Santa Barbara, Carpinteria, Ventura, Oxnard,
Malibu, Santa Monica, Ojai, Thousand Oaks, San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano, Oceanside,
Carlsbad, Fallbrook, Solana Beach, Del Mar, La Jolla, San Diego, Poway, Granite
Hills and Point Loma.
|
|
Student members must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA (C average) and sign our Code of
Ethics in order to compete in our surf program. Coaches and officials are required
to adhere to the same strict Ethics Policy. They are also required to obtain CPR
and First Aid Certification before coaching a team.
|
|
Our high school season runs from mid-October to mid-February, with the High School
Surf Team State Championships taking place mid-March. The middle school season runs
from mid-October through April. The season concludes with the ISF Middle School
State Championships mid-April.
|
|
We feel very fortunate to be able to offer events officiated by individuals who
have been involved in the operation of surf competitions for many years. We are
able to draw upon some of the best officiating talent in the industry, thus giving
ISF participants fair, accurate and consistent contest results.
|
|
Corporate, community and individual support will make it possible for the ISF to
continue it’s good work on behalf of student athletes. Our projected growth and
ability to reach out to even more adolescents will be determined by the generosity
of contributors. If you are interested in helping the ISF and the youth we represent,
give us a call and let’s discuss how we might be able to support you, in return.
|
|
School surf teams and/or surf clubs are welcome to join us. If you or someone you
know is interested in learning more about the ISF, or enrolling a school surf team
in our program, we encourage you to contact us. If you do not have a school surf
program at this time, we will be happy to assist you in getting one started.
